City of Gods: Book Three of the Teadai Prophecies

Adelsik followed the others as they walked toward Mindona and prepared herself for what they might have to do to the errant woman. For my kin. For my sisters. I will kill if I have to. ~ From City of Gods: Book Three of the Teadai Prophecies.

Lost Moon, a new fantasy novel

Her toes were black. Infection would soon follow and Kepriah cursed under her breath. She would have to sear her feet after she severed her snow-bitten toes, and she looked around for kindling with which to start a fire. She glanced at the journal that had fallen from her pack last night, and noted the markings and numbers that represented passing days, then looked at her feet again. Happy sarding day of birth to me.

Got cousins?

Quite often, I get genealogy questions from distant cousins and online friends. While I'm not a genealogist, I have been researching my family tree for 20+ years and am happy to share information. But if you wish to compare ancestors, my best advice is to upload your tree to a website like Ancestry. Even knowing an ancestor's name, birth date and other info, it still means searching our family tree software for the names and visually comparing each individual to make certain they are a correct match. For example: I have 5000+ names in my tree and those are just my direct lines, so you can imagine the time it takes to make connections without online algorithms helping us out.
And if you can afford it, also do a DNA kit because that will help confirm your research and any family tree connections. Believe me when I tell you it's so much easier now than it was back in the day. I remember having to send a snail mail letter to each city for each ancestor just to get birth, marriage, and death information. And you had to pay for each certificate, whether or not they could locate it. Either that, or you had to get on a plane and do the footwork yourself. So get those trees online if you want family connections! Good luck and enjoy the journey, wherever it may lead!

Uber-crazy-busy!

I hope everyone had a nice holiday season. I've been uber-busy the past couple of months, doing interviews and working on my next novel, while entertaining guests and taking care of a sick dog. I hope to be back to regular blog posts by late spring.

In the meantime, I invite you to check out my newest fantasy novel, Lost Moon.

Lost Moon excerpt

The glacial air bit through to Kepriah’s skin as she buried her partner’s body. The ground beneath the snow was so hard she could not dig into it. She had tried using her belt knife, then her sword, but the ground was too hard, even for steel blades. She could barely see through the scarf that wrapped her face, and her breath filtered through in steamy spurts. She had lost many friends over her lifetime, but this death left her as numb inside as she felt outside. Disconnected. Like part of her had been cut away. ~ From Lost Moon, a new fantasy novel by award-winning author, Dana Davis.

My writing career so far

Being an author is a 2nd career for me (starting the fall of 1998) and every few years I like to look back at my writing accomplishments. This helps me focus on what I still need and/or want to do in the future.

Here's where I am so far - Several short stories and articles published, 14 novels written, 11 of those published (some are now 2nd editions), book 12 about to be published, book 13 set for publication next year, and a previously published book scheduled for a 2nd edition release. Not to mention the countless hours of marketing, speaking engagements, interviews, and book signings. And I can't forget the notebooks full of rejection letters. Those are accomplishments, too.

The perfectionist type A personality in me wanted to achieve a lot more in that time, but the realist in me has to remember this is a tough business and I have accomplished quite a lot. Now, if I can just get that movie deal... ;)
